A Study on the Teacher Education Improvement for Convergence Education

To develop ‘creativity convergence’ human resources that future society demands, the government have begun to develop a liberal art/natural science convergence curriculum. To resolve complicated newly confronted problems due to societal change and create new values, a convergent mindset combining various studies is required as knowledge and problem solving skills based on existing departmental studies have limitations.

As such, to develop creativity convergence human resources, the need for convergence education and its application has been spreading. However, in field, the application of convergence education in elementary/middle schools has been facing many institutional and structural limitations. In particular, despite the success of convergence education being strongly dependent upon the ability of teachers, teacher training for convergence education has not been active in teacher training institutes. Furthermore, in middle schools, subject specificity by teaching certificates and departmentalized curriculum have been deterring the application of convergence education.
