Development of Design Quality Indicator for the Korean Educational Buildings

In the 21st century, Korean educational policies have focused on the school user-oriented strategies, such as the Creative Learning, Excellence in Education. The trend has forced that the educational buildings should be utilized for parents and even community as well as students and teachers. In this context, the traditional school district-focused design process has a limitation on acceptance of users' requirement.

The advanced countries including the UK, Australia, and USA have applied a user participatory design in the residential buildings, office buildings, and even educational buildings. And, facilitator, who operates a design workshop to deliver the users' requirements to a architect, has normally employed a Design Quality Indicator for Schools (DQIfS) in order to effectively collect the requirements within a limited duration.

The objective of the research is to develop the 『Korean Educational Building Design Indicator(KEBDI)』which reflects the characteristics of Korean schools.
