A Study on Teachers’ Time Use and Policy Implications
This study, which targets all teachers at six primary and middle schools, refers to an experimental study to shed light on teachers’ time use status generally through both the quantitative methodology such as time diary and experimental sampling method and the qualitative case research techniques such as interview and shadowing. The difference between this study and existing studies lies in the fact that the former made an attempt to analyze the primary data by grasping actual time use aspect to the maximum through the experimental sampling method and the time diary technique, rather than searching for “recognition” about time use based on teachers’ retrospection through such a method as survey. Along with this, this study carried out qualitative analysis on teachers’ time use, in addition to quantitative analysis. In particular, it paid attention to time use from the school organization dimension in qualitative research, which has so far not been addressed, and brought about a noticeable discovery that teachers’ time use by school is different according to such factors as leadership and teacher culture.
