Research of University Evaluation by Analyzing Higher Education Data

The objective of this research is to propose improvements to university evaluation process, by analyzing diverse higher education data currently being collected in Korea and drawing implications from the research results.

In Chapter Ⅱ, details of the four university evaluation processes recently initiated by the Korean government are analyzed. Full-time faculty ratio, scholarship ratio, tuition-to-education investment ratio, small class ratio, ratio of classes taught by full-time faculty, salary level of contingent faculty, enrollment rate of students, employment rate of graduates, and sustained employment rate were found to be common quantitative indicators. In other words, these are the core quantitative indicators in the university evaluation process. This research focuses on these core quantitative indicators. Chapters Ⅲ and IV examine their relationships with the background variables and the specialization variables, respectively. In Chapter Ⅴ, their relationships with teaching-learning methods and student performances are analyzed. Finally, Chapter Ⅵ addresses the need to incorporate the quality of employment to improve employment rate of graduates indicator, one of the core quantitative indicators.
