Research on Educational Development Cooperation between Korea and Developing Countries (Ⅲ):

Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)

Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI) embarked on a three-year research called ‘Educational Development Cooperation between Korea and Developing Countries(Ⅲ): Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)’ in 2013. This study was conducted to recognize the meanings and the needs of educational development cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean, an unexplored land of educational cooperation so far, and to prepare mid-to-long term cooperation strategy that will lead to vitalize educational cooperation between Korea and LAC by articulating educational cooperation development priority.

In the first-year study, Guatemala, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru and Colombia were selected as target countries. After an extensive investigation on education systems and reform, educational circumstances, and the trend and characteristics of educational development cooperation practices in the five selected countries, the basic direction of educational cooperation development has been identified. In the second-year study, based on the field study, the target areas and the tasks for mid-to-long term development cooperation for each five country have been suggested.

This third-year study focuses on feasibility of the research outcomes in order to come up with practical strategies for priory cooperation tasks. From the major target tasks, which were the research outcomes of the second-year study, one or two practical tasks for each country have been selected by using three criteria; significance, feasibility and priority. Then, the field study was conducted.
